ARTIO Wins FWO Shared Industry Assistance Program (SIAP) Funding

Members will be aware that the Australian Road Transport Industrial Organisation (ARTIO) conducts its service to members in relation to obligations under the Fair Work Act and the framework of the nation’s Modern Award system through our registered Union of Employers, the ARTIO.  In late 2009, we presented to industry the Fair Work Education Program through a series of State wide seminars/workshops, under a funding agreement with the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations.

ARTIO has again been successful in being awarded funding to build upon that previous information and education campaign.

ARTIO is required to prepare and deliver materials which, once approved by the Fair Work Australia (FWO), will be distributed. Seminars are being delivered in March/April across Australia as part of the Shared Industry Assistance Program (SIAP).  The seminars are being jointly delivered by ARTIO and the FWO. (for more venues and dates of the seminars please keep reading)

ARTIO is the only organisation to be funded to develop this guidance material in respect of the Road Transport & Distribution Award and the Road Transport (Long Distance Operations) Award.  The project includes guidance material in relation to the National Employment Standards (NES) as they relate to our industry awards.   Our project will focus on an Award Handbook, a document which will be a “user-friendly” publication providing advice on the Modern Transport Awards and their application.  We aim to develop a resource which will be a “recruitment to termination” guide in simple english including examples of the application of the award provisions.

This work is currently being undertaken.  The handbooks are expected to be available no later than early April 2011.
